Broman erupts for 71 in 114-110 loss

Anders Broman’s 71 points shattered the Northeastern Minnesota boys basketball standard by 10 points, were the second-most in state history and more than all but 15 Class A teams average per game. Continue Reading

Ok coach, we know the kid can shoot. Can you please teach your kids some defense? He will not score 71 in college, but he will need to defend. Actual athletic D-1 guards will not let him get a shot off anytime he wants, so if he will be worthy of being on the floor, he will need to defend. Obviously at 6’1″ he will project to be a point so passing and defense need to be emphasized more. In no sport can you win by just outscoring your opponent without playing some D. I say this to support the kid and his future. We all would like him to do more than the other ‘great’ players from the north land since McHale who haven’t panned out at the national level.

How do you know he can’t defend? It was a high-scoring game, but this kid could be lights out on defense. And he had 9 assists, so he seems to get the passing aspect. And actually, in *every* sport you win just by outscoring your opponent.
Anyway, congratulations to Anders. That’s quite an accomplishment.

They(not Broman alone) gave up 114 points in a HS game!! That while playing a 32 minute game. Translates to 171 points given up in an NBA game. Pretty hard to claim there was any defense played. Are you going to put all that on his teammates? And I didn’t say he can’t pass. I said he will need to be a point in the future and needs to learn to play like one. So after his 71 and the 18+ from his assists, the rest of the team accounted for 20 points? That must have been fun for them.

Tell that to the Saints, Packers and Patriots and Lions. Yeah, all great offenses, but the Giants are holding the trophy. You can outscore your opponent while scoring 110 or 40. The #1 HS team in the country gives up less than 50 a game.
