‘Heartless’ Heartland: After trouble paying rent on time, couple with handicapped son told to leave
February 24, 2012 at 6:00 pm in The Dickinson Press
A couple living in a local trailer park said management is kicking them out of their home of 13 years and robbing their handicapped son of vital health requirements. Continue Reading

This is an outrage. It is unbeleveable that the all mighty dollar would take precedence over a family with obvious needs to care for their disabled son. If they are such bad tenants and late with their rent “constantly” how have they managed to keep their home for 13 years? They would have been evicted long before now if that were the case.
To the Pilot family; My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope you get the help and blessings you so much deserve
To Mr Kress and the management of Heartland; Please reconsider your decision! Do the right thing and put the “Heart” back in “Heartland”

In some states, a judge would not sign that eviction order. If the history is the rent is always late, and the landlord always accepts the payment, ‘chronic late rent payments’ is not an acceptable reason for eviction. However, in some states, if the rent is month to month, the landlord doesn’t need to give a reason for terminating the agreement, nor does the tenant; either party would just need to give proper notice.

Thanks Allison, that is a very nice thing you wrote! The Pilots are great people and very loving parents. The thing about them is they wouldn’t only do anything to help out family even when things are tite. They would even help out a stranger in need if at all possabel. Those people that have disliked your opinion must be very selfesh people that only care about themselves, or they are ones that will be making money off of others nightmares!!

The city ought to really step up and do something. To kick people out of their homes like this is really criminal. Surely there is something the city can do! So Heartland wants to kick out all their current tenants by the end of March, and replace them with tenants in newer homes? I smell Greed. Apparently folks can barely pay for what they have, so how are they to afford these newer homes? This seems like a really bad idea and it seems the city should deny permission.

This article should raise many questions in the mind of the reader. Unfortunately, there is a very strong sentiment to throw the property owner under the bus. Questions that come to mind are:
What efforts have the parents made thus far to try to resolve their quandary?
What is their current financial situation? It is understandable that one parent would be a full time caretaker? Does one parent work and have an income? Do they get government assistance?

Has anyone attempted to set up a fund to facilitate the relocation?
And with all due to respect to the parents, why would they make so many improvements on a structure that was sitting on land they don’t own?

Perhaps a better approach would be to reach out to the community to help. We might all be surprised at the amount of charity that exists with our fellow humans, not only in the form of money but in volunteers coming forward to help in a relocation.

One parent is the caretaker!! The other owns his own business!! Their current financial situation is nobody’s business!! They were under the the understanding that they were going to be owning the lot!! Heartless homes don’t know how to measure, their for it was placed over to far, so because of their mistake they were requesting to buy 2 lots which the owners agreed to! So why would they NOT do inprovments to better the situation of their SON. As far as people reaching out it’s happening!!

ok im sure ill get some hated comments for this but come on people really??…. let me enlighten you on a few things: What happens if you dont make your car payment?? YOu get your vehicle repossesed. What happens if you dont pay your electricity? You get it shut off. What happens if you dont make your house payment? Your home gets taken. What happens if you dont pay your lot rent?? You cant stay on the land anymore. I understand that the son may have some dissabilities and it is probobly financially hard to make ends meet. But guess what…they have been there for 13 years and you cant tell me that “Heartless Village” has kicked them out because this is the first time it has happened where they are behind on there lot rent. come on peopole wake up. If you dont pay your bills your not going to get to keep the things you have.
Hot debate. What do you think?

That’s the thing thow they do pay and have always paid. If they were going to be late they always called and heartless homes always understood. Cause they always would pay and they new that they were good on their word. They have 100′s of reciets to prove that. 13 years ago heartless homes put their trailer down but did it wrong they placed it on 2 lots, that’s how smart heartless home is!! if they have been doing this for 13 years and they never had a problem with all this till now, really really can’t you see what’s going on! They want to make money on it cause if they would have placed it right in the 1st place this would not be happening!! But the money they could make on this place if they can’t move it wow!!! Their place is no trailer anymore it’s a house a very beautifull one!! They also built a huge shop next to it, they could make so much money off this place, it’s not even funny and that’s all heartless homes want! It’s called greed!!

Have you ever thought about tht maybe heartland is sick and tired of always having late payments and always being the good guys and having to be understanding all the time?? Pay your dam rent on time and quit asking for hand outs. And no they dont always pay on time according to what the article in the press says. Im sure they were fine with a few late payments but when is enough, enough??

A few thoughts:
1) One writer is correct – there is an immense amount of generosity out there, they should have reached out ahead of all this happening, there must have been some organization willing to help.
2) A new wave a greediness has taken over in this part of our state, and that’s evident in this case.
3) A bit of humanity, concern for your fellow man, could go a long way in this scenario.
4) Clearly these folks have spent a great amount of resources adding to their property to make it a home for their disabled son…the park owner should know that if they are having a hard time paying rent, that moving the home is out of the question. See #3 above.

Sound to me like they’re maybe “good conservatives” who are totally against taking any kind of gov’t aid, or even charity?
