It’s been years in the making, and it’ll likely be years before anything is finalized, but one group of citizens is making progress to give Jamestown a community activity center. Continue Reading

One option is using the county-wide 1 cent sales tax after that is done paying off the high school in 2017, he said.

Or they could eliminate that 1 cent sales tax and let the taxpayers keep more of their hard earned money.

If this project is geared at keeping young professionals in town, doesn’t that benefit the local economy?
Why then, is the JSDC not kicking in the funding for this? This is a project that satisfies every one of their goals for pursuing economic development. WHERE IS THE JSDC ON THIS? Connie Ova needs to speak up, something that’s actually good could come form the JSDC.

First off, why is Super Bob donating land when the school is looking at deficit spending? Second, do we really need facilities that cost millions of dollars? Is this really for the community or is this for the school? I think JPS has enough of my money and I also think Bob Toso should not have his fingers in this, I see a huge conflict of interest . His own school board questioned his dabbling in two many boards. Bob take up a hobby that does not include tax payer money!!!!!!!!

Hey Oldlady, it’s not necessarily just Bob Toso that thinks this will keep young professionals in town. He doesn’t represent every response on the board for this project, so perhaps cut him some slack here. I would say this wouldn’t prevent young professionals from staying in town. Frankly, there are some young people in Jamestown now that should probably leave, as they could have more opportunity elsewhere. Don’t just blame Bob Toso here, spread it evenly.

I personally think this is a great idea. How many times have we sent our younger kids to fargo or bismarck to get the speed and strength training for sports? Far to many times. Its time we start taking a stand and keeping our kids local. Not only will this benifit our children and the activities they participate in it will benifit the community. Look at the surrounding communitys that will come to jamestown to use the facility for the sports they participate in such as football, basketball, volleyball, and hockey. I say this is a HUGE plus and cant get built soon enough. This isnt Mayberry people, its a different time. We need support such an idea and push to move things forward. You have my YES vote !!!!
Hot debate. What do you think?

We already place too much emphasis on sports and recreation. If those interested people want to donate their time and money, great. But as far as this taxpayer is concerned, this has a no vote from me.
