While they’re at it, why not reimburse motorists for the extra gas they burned while having to detour around the construction area.

That’s sure funny, Bill.
I’d have to side with the business owners on this one. This was a huge project and unlike when Main Street was overhauled, the city didn’t provide a well labeled system to help motorists get to the businesses affected. I think if Jamestown wants to keep these businesses, then we should show it.
Even the JSDC should be on board with this. This is exactly their thing.

I’d agree with you on that.

How about this:
1) Why did you not complain more or louder while this was going on?
2) I live in Fargo, and I recall an extremely wet first half or more of the summer – therefore things being delayed is understandable (unless Jamestown missed all that rain).
3) Maybe Jamestown agrees to reimburse for lost business in return for a percentage of future profits of those businesses, now that they have better roads and services?
Why is everyone always looking for someone to blame?

Why is everyone always looking for someone to blame?
Not looking to always blame somebody, but in this specific case for this specific instance, the city did a p i s s poor job of simply setting up adequate detour signs or accomodating the local busineses who pay taxes. It’s not about assigning blame, it’s about accountability for one’s actions (or lack thereof).
The city of Jamestown will benefit by default on a percentage of future profits.
