Last year must have been a good one for skunks. Never seen so many of ‘em before!
Fortunately, they don’t seem to know how to cross a highway. Counted over 20 roadkills over three months last late summer and fall, just in the four miles between my place and town.

200 road kills? That could have kept a lot of families fed down in Arkansas.

The photo reminds me of the American Gothic painting by Grant Wood where the old farmer with a pitchfork in his hand and his spinster daughter are standing in front of their home.

Actually my vet said a study many years ago showed that the vast majority of skunks killed on the highway are rapid – that’s why they don’t know how to cross a road.
