Why do we need a defense (War) budget as large as the rest of the world combined?
We are only at war with those we choose. It is well past the time we stop choosing war for our major export, as it is bankrupting us, U.S.
We need to start paying attention to the welfare of this country and of its citizens. The money used to bomb, burn, and otherwise kill innocents in other countries could be put to a more effective use for Health care for all, rebuilding our failing infrastructure, and criminal trials for the fraudsters on Wall Street and the greedy corporate criminals that are intent on making the average worker destitute serfs.
Prosperity through peace, not 3rd world status through war.

I think we’re doing the right thing by downsizing the military now that we can make strategic strikes using drones and special forces to accomplish what used to be done by invading armies. Times change and tecnology has made the business as usual style of military intervention obsolete. I’m not surprized that far-right-wing Republicans are critical of what is a far more effective and efficient method of conducting military involvements. The State Department under Hillary Clinton has also been doing a great job of using diplomacy to further US interests rather than relying strictly on military might. We still have enough nuclear war heads to blast apart the earth 10 times over. And of course the cost savings are substantial in this new approach. Obama has got it right.
