You may have read the story in last week’s Star-Observer regarding Hudson Police Department detective Shawn Pettee’s decision to return to work as a full-time patrol officer for the department. The best way to justify your position and pay…make sure everybody knows there is this giant horrible problem that needs to be addressed immediately or march on the parade of horribles. Is it really related? Is there actual evidence of proximate cause and effect? Is it different than the general populations exposure locally or even nationally? Because ultimately, we need to determine if it is even real? And no, we should not just take anyones word for it. Our tax dollars need to be invested wisely. And targeted to address and rectify with a degree of certainty. Coincidence and hyperbole need to be eliminated as possibility before rubber stamp approval is given. I’m not against anything that needs to be done to make our community better, I just want proof that it is actually what we need.

This is another good reason why rezoning the dog track would be a mistake. We need take revenue to increase our Police force . Would be a mistake to take away 1/3 of our tax base when the school board has other options for land acquisition that won’t hurt the city’s tax base.

Oh and let’s clear something up. If I recall, the council did not cut a detective. What they did was have the Chief of Police make a decision . Keep 3 detectives or promote one to Leutenant. He chose to promote. We could have 3 detectives if that is what the chief wanted.
