Moorhead, MN (WDAY TV) – Minnesota gun and self-defense laws could be set for some major changes if Bill 1467 is signed into law. It’s an attempt to enhance the rights of homeowners during an intrusion, and broaden permit-to-carry law. Continue Reading

I always like when the police or sheriff say it is not necessary. Can they be every where protecting every citizen every minute of the day? NO. It is also ironic that they say it is not needed when they have guns to protect themselves off duty. I am not against that but lets face it. I should have the same rights as you! Additionally you should not be able to take anything of mine unless you have a warrant to do so or if I am involved in a criminal activity. This law ensures you don’t declare an emergency and start going door to door like New Orleans peace officers did and take thousands of rare rifles which were never returned to the owners. In addition, if memory serves me right we have declared an emergency in the last 3 years because of flooding. So you would have the right to come and take my property – I don’t think so no matter who you are. And the sheriff says shoot and ask questions later – Well let me ask you some thing. If one of your officers had a gun pulled on them “would they not do the same thing?” They protect themselves and others first then ask question. Sounds like a bunch of double talk to me from the Sheriff.

I also think this is not right for the Sherriff to make such a statement. It is not needed?? In his book only. The one that gauls me the most is his shoot first ask later. It is so nice to know he has such a high opinion of us here in this oh so dangeros city. We (CCW Holders) have been checked over very well by the powers to be. We are ok,that is why we got our CCW’s. I think he is a very Awesome Sherriff with a lot of expirence ,But i think he needs to choose his words better next time. It is his opinion and he is entitled to it..

Why do law enforcement officials always assume that more freedom in gun ownership by private citizens will result in the return of the wild west, with shoot-outs on the streets? I firmly believe that every citizen has the same rights as police officers to carry a handgun for means of protection. The 2nd amendment guarantees it. I have a concealed carry permit, and I rarely carry a handgun in Fargo, but I retain the right to do so. Get off your high horse, sheriff, you’re not the expert. Our founding fathers were quite insightful. And Minnesota needs to allow legal gun owners from North Dakota to carry in their state. Their current law is ridiculous. I’ll take my chances with a jury, if I ever have to explain why I defended myself with a handgun. Any jury member that doesn’t allow self defense, opens the door for any criminal to do the same damn thing to anyone of them.
