ABSOLUTELY NOT.
We need to blow millions of dollars on a new south-end school like we need to put a power drill to our skulls.
Their own report proves that we have a super-abundance of capacity. If this was being done with private money, it’d be frivolous and wasteful. Since it’ll be done with money stolen from the taxpayers, it’s near-criminal, irresponsible, unethical.
We’re 86 million dollars in debt for the Civic Center, millions more for the recent additions to the two main high schools, and “who knows” how far in debt for the Country-club southend Fitness Center.
They’re going to push the library until they get their way.
They’re going to push for a new Community High School in two years.
Who knows what other crap they have up their sleeves?
Do you have any idea how far every man, woman, and child in Grand Forks has been put into debt due to these wasteful projects?

To begin with, the authors of this opinion have never had a qualm about spending vast sums of money of boondoggles (not their money, of course) to satisfy the whims of a few. Further, this whole process once again reflects the passive-agressive nature of North Dakotans, whereby all direct confrontation must be avoided at all costs. A handful of parents demand all northside schools remain open, despite a severe problem with over capacity. A group of southend parents want a new school. Instead of saying no to the former and yes to the latter, it’s just easier to say yes all around and make everyone happy. This is like the times the city council discussed streamlining the bloated bus system, only to wilt when the 15 people who use the bus show up to complain .
