From a communication standpoint, the DSU leadership team made the best possible decisions in the circumstances that they were facing. In terms of crisis communication, as is known among experts in that area of study and practice, you must deal with reality, perception, and liability. You have to ascertain as much about reality as possible on the quick, you have to be highly sensitive to the perception of risk (regardless of the reality), and you have to think about institutional liability issues. People should be thankful that the present DSU leaders are interested in doing the best they can with respect to adequate public communication.
