While I’m biased being a co-founder, merchants could look into an alternative like Dwolla. It is the online version of cash. The only fees are $.25 for transactions over $10. Under $10, it doesn’t cost a penny. Customers pay with their cell phones, and merchants can receive the payment on their own cell phone (for small shops), or their computers over the internet. No credit cards are involved, so no interchange fees applied to the merchants.
