If they can serve and die in our military & vote in our elections, they deserve the right to be treated just like any other person. There is no threat to traditional marriage by giving gays basic civil rights. Hoo rah.

Do you think this ruling will help keep this distraction off of other state’s ballots? It would make sense, but I won’t hold my breath.

Would be a bit of a setback for the social conservatives, wouldn’t it be?

This only reinforces the Right-Wing militant push to put this on the ballot and add it to state constitutions. Then judges, and the rule of law, won’t have a say over the matter.

You are probably right
Like we should have put the Civil Rights Act on the ballot too. What were our parents and grandparents thinking!?

Prop. 8 was on the ballot in California and was voted in. Hope we don’t have to go through the same thing here with the wasted time and money. But I suppose we might…

This is a very hotly debated, emotional issue which many people feel strongly about. I know some folks who, because of their religious beliefs, are not in favor of gay and lesbian marriage. However, they are in favor of civil unions and full protection under the law and equal rights for gay and lesbian persons. I imagine a question might be is there really full equality if gays and lesbians are permitted to enter civil unions but not marriage in the traditional sense.
Knowing how a majority of younger people feel about this issue, it is probably only a matter of time and this will all be a moot point. The younger generation seem to be much more open and accepting of change than us old farts.
