ESKO When Phil Johnson was in college, making $3 an hour working summers at the paper mill in Cloquet, he saved enough to buy himself a bamboo fly rod.

I remember the first time I saw a bamboo fly rod. I had never even cast one yet–much less fished with one–but I was already hooked. I saved every penny I could and negotiated every way possible to get my hands on a bamboo fly rod. Fishing with a bamboo fly rod is almost a sub cult of fly fishing.
