One mom limits school lunch spending, waste

Just curious… since his article was written Oct 1st, why is it now on the front page of wctrib.com?
On the article, I feel bad for her middle-school kid. Does she assumes that her kids aren’t going to find other means to get the “bad” foods? If her kids are anything like mine, the more you tell them not to do something the more likely they are to do it. If she doesn’t want to spend her money on those food choices that’s fine, but I hope she doesn’t think that her kids are going to eat “healthy” because of it.

My middle-schooler would go get 2nds on pizza and not eat the other food being offered – either throwing it away or not taking it. If kids are really hungry, like my teenage boys when they were in football, I’d tell them to eat all that was offered and then get 2nds if needed. I restricted my younger childs a la carte for several months. Now there is a trial period to prove responsible use of the priviledge.
Wasting food or wasting money – good choices need to be taught. Horray for mom who wrote this blog!

Good, nora!
Amazing how kids will eat what’s good for them if they’re really hungry, isn’t it?
Just hope my daughter and son in law do the same with my grandkids!
