As a taxpayer I have a very hard time supporting a new school in the south end while we continue to waste tax money supporting underpopulated schools in the north end. You cannot blame parents of these schools being very vocal in their lobbying to keep them all open. Ideally we all want to have a school within walking distance for our kids but it just doesn’t make good fiscal sense. Parents have adapted to the much geographically larger districts in the south end, and the parents in the north would do the same. Good leaders make some hard calls, and this is one of them. Is there any leadership on the school board, or will they take the easy way out and tax us to death to avoid upsetting a very small segment of this community?

Didn’t you read one of the previous articles, I remember it stating that no new taxes would be needed to build a new grade school because of previously paid debts. I could be wrong or is there anyone out there that can back me up on it?

No new taxes is myth because we all know our taxes will go up as property values rise. The only way taxes won’t go up is if the school board would drop their mill levy. That isn’t going to happen!
GF school enrollment has dropped from 12,700 in 1970 to 6,700 today. In reality we need fewer classrooms not more.

Tax rates are too high already. Even IF (big IF) they’re not lying to us, the issue is not that the tax rates won’t increase. The issue is that the tax rates won’t DECREASE.
The theater additions were fiscal irresponsibility. Should not have been built.
The new elementary school should not be built. We’ve got far too much capacity as-is.
You KNOW they’re gonna be building or remodeling a facility for Community High in two years. ANOTHER multi-million dollar project.
The School Board is out-of-control, reckless, and corrupt. Time to replace ‘em all.
