While most of the advice is good it shoujld be labeled advertising for the CPA Society. There are numerous excellent “tax preparers” who are not CPAs. And the article should have noted that you will almost always pay more if it is done by a CPA. Certainly if you have a very complicated tax situation you might consider a CPA. But if your return is relatively simple there are many good places to go. It looks like the paper took a press release from the CPA Society and labelled it NEWS.

And the IRS provides a list of sites that will do your tax prep for nothing if you qualify. Mostly by age and/or income level. All you need are your w2′s and interest info.
