Would you say that the company that is charging $4 a pill for a bottle of 100 is a “robber of widows and orphans?” Or just a plain old garden variety of criminal?

Ignorance is bliss I guess. Do you realize how much money goes into development of that $4 pill? How long it takes for a drug to be developed until it gets on the market?

Well I am sure glad I never but my kids on that stuff. Reality can be tough when you are used to being sedated al the time. (Yes, I am one of those people who believe that only 1 of the 100 kids on that junk actually need it. And trust me i have some REALLY high spirited kids and would never ever put them on it at that age).

Giving time and discipline to kids should always out-rank drugging them.

Instead of shoving a pill, which is a chemical, at your children, read the ingredients of what you call food. That stuff you buy at the grocery store and order at a restaurant is what is causing most of these children their problems. The dyes, the flavor enhancers, MSG and all the other added chemicals including high fructose corn syrup and aspertame has put your child’s body on overdose mood. Your child’s acting out is a symptom of food and beverage poisoning from all the chemicals they are ingesting from grocery store and restaurant foods. Those foods were not made to feed your family, they were made for a company to make a buck without any regards of what it does to your child’s body and yours. Take one month of just feeding your child PURE natural foods. I guarantee you your child will not need to keep the drug companies in business anymore. Most ADD and ADHD is caused by a sensitivity to what they are eating and drinking. Don’t forget to avoid the pesticides, growth hormones and GMO’s. Stop taking the lazy way out of eating and feeding your children because your child’s happiness is worth the time and money it takes to feed the true human foods. I would not even allow my dogs to eat that stuff that is called food at restaurants and grocery stores. Take that one month challange, do it for your child’s life. I guarantee you, after one month of not eating any of that stuff called food, you will never go back to the way you were eating.

I’m sorry, I need to add more. Some of those same toxic chemicals in your foods and beverages are also in some soaps, shampoos, lotions, clothing and medicines especially. I know, it is so hard to read every single label on every single product, but it is needed until products that are toxic are labeled as such and products that are designed for us are called just what they are, food, beverages, medicines, soap, lotion shampoo. I have seen Target advertises a natural cold medicine free of dyes, I need to check that out because right now, I could only purchase the toxic dyed stuff, so that’s what I have on hand. When I accidentally ingest or use a product with yellow dye #5, I shake and I am restless and irritable, just like a person going through alcohol or drug withdrawl. I then will go read the ingredients of a product that I would have never in my life guessed it had a dye in it and there it is, in tiny little hard to read letters, yellow dye #5. It is real, I am not a child but a grandmother, my body went into overdose and now I can feel right away when I have had some of those toxins, imagine what a tiny new body goes through if it does this to an old adult.

This goes to show you how much we are over medicating our kids today so parents do have to deal with them! Everyone today needs a diagnosis. Everyone is depressed, has ADHD, or some other problem that needs medications. We have become a medicated country to function, SAD.

It is quite sad Terry. And that isn’t even mentioning the significant numbers who seek out stimulants only to abuse them.
Parents are also encouraging general practitioners to diagnose their child with ADHD just for the purpose of abusing the medication themselves.
What a cluster you know what of a drug policy we have. Now the druggies don’t see there drug dealer, they just seek out a diagnosis of GAD or ADHD, and abuse the barbiturates or stimulants.
Pretty sad, for those few who actually need the medication.

There is another antidote to many of these problems: get the kids outdoors. There is growing documentation that a child’s (and adult’s) connection with nature has a positive effect on behaviors associated with the disorders discussed in this article. We have lots of wooded trails in Duluth to use in such “therapy.”

Excellent suggestion Cairman. A lot of kids today don’t spend much time outside playing etc.

Another way to look at this. Just to name some things. How many Amish children suffer from ADD, ADHD, Autism, Depression and Suicide? How many elderly Amish have Alzheimers, Parkinsons, Depression and Suicide? Now look at what we ingest and what the Amish ingest. They had it right all along. Eat the food that nature has provided, not what some lab mixed together.

Hahaha, those voting against me, what do you suggest? Keep ingesting chemicals and than take chemicals to help with the body’s reaction to the first chemical ingested? Is that YOUR answer? It certainly has kept this cycle going for many decades without any CURE. Chemicals make you sick so take more chemicals to make you feel better and then take more chemicals to make you feel better from the new symptoms you are feeling.. What a vicious cycle and what a money maker for the food and drug companies. There is a reason our government labeled them the FDA(Food and Drug Administration). What a wicked web and a gold mine.

I agree that children and adults in this society are way over medicated. Personally, I always choose a natural alternative to prescription drugs. It is not easy to choose natural alternatives because we are conditioned to pick the quick and easy fix for whatever is wrong with us.
The drug companies spend big advertising dollars to convince us and our doctors that their products are the solution to what ails us despite the high prices and inherent side effect risks. We should remember that the highest priority for big pharma is to make money…and lots of it.
The large food “manufacturers” are also in business to make big money and they have found that we as a society place a heavy value on convenience, attractive packaging, long shelf life, and taste. Unfortunately, these things are often not compatible with a healthy diet.
IMHO, we would be better off if we took responsibility for our health choices and avoided fast foods and refined and heavily processed foods…anything containing MSG, refined white flour or sugar, and soft drinks are some examples. Add outdoor exercise and a prudent skepticism toward prescription drugs, and we would likely lead healthier lives…and reduce those huge health care costs that everyone complains about.
Oh, in case any are wondering about that cigarette in my avatar’s mouth…that’s representative of an unhealthy past.
