People avoided visiting the area out of fear of bears? As a lifelong observer of tourism in the Ely area, I never considered that possibility.

I hope people one day will learn to leave us hunters alone we do not bother you we let you hug all the bunnys and bears you want now leave us alone to hunt some of them.

I’ll stop killing them when you come with a feasible solution to them starving to death form overcrowding.
It’s ironic that you people are so quick to crucify hunters as inhumane, when the alternative is even worse. Ever seen a starving animal? I can guarantee you that a starving bear poses more threat to your safety then a hunter ever will.

Ely’s merchants would benefit more from rationalization of the
BWCA rules than the notoriety Ely enjoys from the bear center. It’s a welcome addition to the offerings of the Ely area, but the irrational restrictions in the BWCA limit the opportunities for the tourist industry there. Ely’s business coffers are far from full despite the tireless work by merchants there — and this won’t fill them.

Its utterly amazing to me how the birth of a couple cub bears puts such fear into some of the hunters who profess to be doing a service to the wildlife. Mind you I am not against hunting but feel most of their arguments are based not on scientific fact but short sighted thinking on some of their parts.

Most intelligent people are disgusted by the way this charlaton is making money off what would be an otherwise natural thing.
Maybe if you get off on watching live childbirth and seeing humans subjected to this kind of ‘entertainment’, you’d agree?
