Closing a school in the north end of Grand Forks would hurt property values and harm the wonderful work that has taken place and continues to take place today. Continue Reading

“I strongly urge the school district to support the Demographic Task Force’s recommendations.”
That’s wonderful in terms of NOT CLOSING the Northside schools, and I support that part of the recommendations. The problem is that the recommendations ALSO include building a wasteful and un-needed Southside school.
We cannot begin to fill the existing schools, why on earth would be build MORE capacity when we already have more than we need? Re-draw the school boundaries, provide some mild-to-moderate restrictions on cross-boundary attendance: PROBLEM SOLVED. (Except, of course, that the current School Board members don’t get their names cast into a big, new bronze plaque in the new school building.)
We’ve wasted far too much money on “theaters” for the high schools–another pair of projects that was TOTALLY un-necessary. Let’s not add to the mis-use of tax dollars by buying a new school.
