WEATHER: Extreme cold warning 9 a.m. today to noon Thursday

Bitter cold is near, though official xtreme cold warnings from the National Weather Service start at several different times — 9 this morning in Grand Forks, Grand Forks County and some northern Red River Valley counties, for example; and 6 tonight across the river in East Grand Forks, Polk County. The winds will make bitter feel brutal. Plus, light snow is falling largely north of U.S. Highway 2, with as much as an inch possible by sunrise today. Got back to ND just in time to enjoy some real winter…..Nothing like having to do a little truck maintainence in -30 windchill. You move a lot faster and you really know you’re alive…..
Then again I grew up in an era where we constantly did outside activity regardless how cold it got. I couldn’t believe it the first time I heard skating warm houses were closing when it got below zero…As a kid we seldom skated in anything but below zero temps……If you respect the cold…You can learn to do more than just endure the cold…You can actually enjoy it….For a little while at least…
