Hitler as American Crystal Sugar’s David Berg? YouTube spoof has lockout ending badly for company
January 12, 2012 at 10:23 am in Grand Forks Herald
American Crystal Sugar Co. managers are the latest group lampooned through an edited YouTube clip taken from a film about the last days of Adolph Hitler. In the latest version, posted on YouTube this week, Hitler is Crystal Sugar President David Berg, ranting to aides crowded into his bunker about the cost and duration of the lockout, now in its seventh month. What way to win friends and influence people! Glad the GFH ran this, just shows the gross stupidity and bad taste of the union.

So much for the kinder, gentler Rich Guy. Why not put up a video of Night of The Living Dead for the union? Or how about Blood Sucking Freaks? Troll 2?

There are indeed certain union members that are behaving badly. I’m ashamed of each and every one of them. All they have done is give the union an even worse image than they already have. This is a clear sign of immaturity. To hear that this has come out recently really makes me mad. You would think they would be putting their energy into finding a solution to end the lockout. Who ever made this video should apologize to everybody in the Red River Valley and most importantly to Dave Berg. It is so childish it is unbelievable.

I’m not okay with the lock-out Dan but I do feel this and other antics by the union do indeed make the union look bad. I also feel it divides members of the union. Several of the mature ones are fed up with this kind of crap. I guess my priorities are getting people back to work not acting like characters on South Park or Family Guy. This is a serious issue and I fail to see the humor.

Dan…. ACSC has all the power in this. It sucks…it really sucks…but that is the case. I hate it…but it is reality.
They invested a boat load of money in this. They are not backing down.
Yes…there are several cuts in this contract…but it is still better than what most people are getting. That is why the union members aren’t getting sympathy from anyone but each other.
I don’t know who made that video or posted it on You Tube but I wish they hadn’t. It just makes the gap bigger between union and nonunion members of our communities.
I wish the lockout had never happened but it has. I know how painful it is for union employees. I live with someone that worked there for 33 years before this.
You are right…Berg is telling the union to take it or leave it…so what now? You are also right (in my opinion) that ACSC wants to bust or at least weaken the union.
But that is what the owners want. You can’t win a fight against the people that own the factories. They will just continue to use replacement workers.
This is just my feeling on this long and painful dispute. I was nuts about this once but now I only want to discuss it rationally and with people I respect…like you.

Just another way the Union is making themself look worse. eventually they will cave and no longer exist cuz the true workers will debunk and get rid of the union. Who in their right mind would want to be part of a group that puts stuff like this out.

I have no problem with the video clip…. it is distastefull and not helpful to ending the lockout but that is all. However posting names and pics of replacement workers is harassment and close to stalking. That should be investigated and legal actions taken.

You are so STUPID for allowing this video to hit the airwaves Union leadership. This is a huge setback. This is why no politician will COME TO YOUR AID. You have NO LEADERSHIP. No LEADERSHIP. NO one is running the controls. That Jan Bailey was on here 10 days ago stirring up strife.
Seriously union workers. You are being royally screwed. Your union has no intention of finding a way to resolve this and they no it. Some of you may have to sit down with your families and make a decision if it’s not time to cross the picket line? Many of your former comrades, who are deliberately stirring up this kind of strife, will never be taken back anyway.
Good luck. The rest of, forget about the way things were. They aren’t going to be that way ever again.

Management does not have to Gene. They hold all the cards. At this point the union is just having another in a long series of temper tantrums.
Whenever I am tempted to feel sorry for them, I watch whatever the latest greatest video clip on WDAY is and it immediately vanishes. I mean “poof.”
You would think if cameras are around you would get someone who can articulate your arguments without sounding like a drool bib. I do not mean to be crass, but the two they had on today were just too much. Like I said, “poof.”

I understand that Gene, I guess in their defense no matter what they show someone will say exactly what you said. That is why we have our hyper-polarized media: if I want to see video of Obama walking on water, tune in MSNBC. If I want to hear how Obama is the Antichrist, flip over to Fox.
Unfortunately there is no real in the middle (maybe the BBC). CNN used to do a fair job but it looks more like MTV all the time.
No wonder I end up reading six different papers to try to find out what is going on.

I never thought it was a union rep. However, when Froemke was asked about it he said he hadn’t seen it….but he did think it “sounds hilarious”.
Take from THAT statement what you want. If I was a union rep, and I was asked about a video with that sort of theme, I would have replied that I hadn’t yet seen it….and that it would be inappropriate to comment until I had.
But Froemke was compelled to say he thought it sounded hilarious.
Yep, saying that twice was just me being repetitious. I do think your “representation” is beyond clueless though and it NEEDS to be pointed out. Imagine if a company supporter put up a similar video and Berg or someone else was asked about it. Do you think they’d reply, “No I haven’t seen it yet, but it sounds hilarious”?
If a company supporter did post a video like that, would the union folks laugh it off as being harmless and amusing? Really?
Sorry….don’t think so. You’d have been all over that like flies on a pile of insert-your-own-word-here.

Answer the question Jeff. If the company had produced a similar video “poking fun” at the union workers, you’d be among the FIRST to call them out on it. And you KNOW it. If a company rep commented that he/she thought such a video was hilarious, you’d be ALL over that as well.
Try to be objective one day a week at least…and work forward from there.

By all means post up Berg’s exact quote, and we’ll go forward from there. No typical union paraphrasing or misquoting though….okay?
And if the company says the lockout has been planned, what that means is they took steps to prepare for it. The union had MORE than one opportunity to do something besides simply saying “Nope”. An earlier poster “explained” the negotiating process to us. His words:
***The idea behind negotiating is thousands of years old. You bid high, they bid low, this continues until a middle ground is found.***
Sounds great, but when I asked him what “bid” the union came back with after the first offer….nothing. When I asked what “bid” the union came back with after the second offer….nothing. So yeah not much “negotiating” was taking place.
Now I know this is going to be really hard for you, but try to be objective for a second. Imagine you’re in a negotiation process with another party, and the other party isn’t negotiating. Imagine IF that other party SAYS they’re willing to negotiate but adds this gem….we don’t think we need to make ANY concessions?
Would you or would you not prepare for steps you may need to take in the event that the negotiations fall flat?
The fact that they were preparing for this situation only proves that, (unlike the union), they considered what may occur. The union’s course of action throughout this whole thing proves beyond any doubt how disconnected and clueless they can be….when they really set their minds to it.

***Its a stupid little video thats meant to be funny and to tell the truth it is***
So which is it? Is it a stupid little video that’s meant to be funny, or….is it meant to tell the truth?
And folks are probably aware that this clip has been used many times before. What you DON’T GET, is that in this situation, it’s just another example of one side in this dispute taking the high road, while the other side in this dispute wouldn’t know the high road if it jumped up and bit them in the butt.
Defend actions like this all you want, perhaps EVENTUALLY the rest of humanity will catch up and realize that tactics like this really ARE the path to success.
Congrats in advance.

World is full of hypocrites who are only offended when its their group and will only defend it when its not their group.

Funny would be if Dave B. sued the guy who made that up,

and invited the replacement workers over there for a keg party and trashed the place.

PS. He called the contract a tumor that could make the company sick. Not you, not your friends and not the workers of ACSC, so quit making up garbage just so you can pretend to have something to be mad about. If the union does not drop the emotional baggage you just come off as bunch of cry babies. Perhaps you should argue with people who are not as informed as most of us are here.

That was the point of the video, wasn’t it? To evoke emotion and drive a bigger wedge between union-management negotiations. I would think the video succeeded. Good job, now there isn’t even a fragment of credibility to the union’s cause. Just remember, the replacement workers, the company, and even your union leaders are all making a living and planning for their respective futures….. you are not.

Haven’t seen any comments from those who like the union call the video wrong even show they dislike it. Instead, it appears they look at it as a “reality” to thier situation. Keep in mind, the union employees are chosing to be locked out by not signing a contract. This years sugar campaign will be over in a few months, this year is going to be successful for ACS and next year will be as well. It shows that the locked out worker really is not as valuable as they think they are.

In case you missed it, it’s been asked a couple of times what the pro-union sentiment would be if this situation were reversed.
Say whatever you want, (as many times as it takes for you to believe it yourself), but union folk would NOT be watching the clip and commenting on its humor if the fun was at their expense.
You don’t need to admit it to the rest of us, but at least stop kidding yourself.

Bottom line is that this video put out by the union and deamed hilarious by Froemke speaks volumes as to the negotiating capability of the union. To JQ Public this shows how horribly the union membership is being represented. Froemke Riskey and Bertelli have nothing to lose by hanging the membership out to dry.
