Roughly 150 local residents gathered at Park High School to discuss the option of leaving the Suburban East Conference as a way to bolster the school’s sports programs a debate that has waged inside the walls of Park since 2009. Continue Reading

Blah, Blah, Blah, crap! With good coaching and tradition come more participation. Change the school lines so each school has close to equal income levels and demographics! Everyone is paying the same taxes for the three high schools, there is no reason to have one any better than the other! Park athletics need to stay put, build tradition through good coaching, and not so many people will leave for Cretin on Hill Murray!

And as the meeting ended, non-sexual harrasment worthy group hugs were given and participation medals for all attendees…
Hate to point out the obvious, but you still have to win against those rascals in other conferences to reach any sport’s state championships. Even if it is with our great unwashed citizenry’s offspring. And dumbing it down to have more wins than losses is just delaying the inevitable.
It’s more and more obvious when I see this from sports and read the math reports as an example of academics, there’s a lot of work to be done to improve our schools. And it’s not something moving extracurricular activities to another group of opponents is going to fix. The problems are much deeper and widespread.

It is clear that the culture of losing is ingrained here. It was not always this way. But now if you go to the local establishments after a game you see the kids yucking it up and not caring. The coaches are there also drinking while wearing their Park gear. A winning atmosphere will not be created by switching to lesser competition.
