They’re not paving the hunter’s paradise of prairie land in South Dakota, but they are tilling it upIn the nearly half-century he’s lived in South Dakota, John Cooper has seen countless beautiful prairie sunsets. Even though 80% of corn used for ethanol is fed to cattle the fact is ethanol drives the marginal acreages to be planted in corn at the expense of wildlife. Farmers have now completed their transformation into miners from being farmers. Blame agri -”BUSINESS” for destroying agri – “CULTURE”. Capitalism once again shows its true colors.

It is a sad commentary on our modern era. When Lewis and Clark paddled up the Missouri River in the early 1800′s through SD, ND and Montana, the prairies were full of wildlife…..herds of bison and elk were abundant…and grizzlies and wolves were common. It is difficult to believe that farmers can still be paid subsidies while making a nice profit on their operations. Perhaps there should be some kind of requirement by state and local governments for farmers to leave some room for wildlife habitat. Something is not right here.

I know I’ll get a lot of “Dislikes” on this once again….But left to our own knack for more…We do have a history of taking too much and suffering the consequences as a result. And here’s the part some really hate…This pretty much puts the human race on the same plain as rodants….we over populate and take everything in our path.
Farmng is a business…But that business…As with other types of business…need to find balance withing environments whether it’s country or urban. If not we find more and more problems down the road such as urban decay and driving out wild life from natural habitat…..And there’s precious few habitat areas left for some types of wild life.
