Cleanup set to remove St. Louis River debris

The sawmills that buzzed away on the shore of the St. Louis River in Duluth are long since gone, but the legacy of debris they left on the bottom of what was called Cedar Yard Bay is still there. Federal and state funding is in place to remove the 460 pilings (some 100 tons) using giant equipment while the upper harbor is covered in ice.

good to see this done, however…. this comes out to around $1,950 per piling. With a vibrator they should come out about one every five or ten minutes. So how thoroughly did the folks spending this money check for other qualified contractors?

Where does all this federal funding come from? Its like the feds have an endless supply of money.
