It’s a sad day for all that take pride in that name….. As far as the future…..No new nickname needed. Ever. We are North Dakota! Period.

After re-reading the article I hope that the name No-Dak Nation is reduced to just
N0-Daks. However my above caracterization of the NCAA still stands.

Whoever does advertising at the Herald missed the “edict from on high” as well. Hahhahah! See the big banner ad? “Cheer for the Sioux in Winnipeg” Love it!
This is NOT going away, UND.
And we will never again be known as the Flickertails.

Goooo Flickertails! You will ALWAYS be known as the Flickertails!

Agree, never again the Flickertails, but you can bet your bottom dollar that you children or grandchildren (whichever is appropriate) if they attend UND, we never again be known as the Fighting Sioux. Thank God we are moving on. There may be hope for the old homestead yet.

As far as I’m concerned, nuke ND and MN from orbit. It’s the only way to make sure.

THE DAKOTA TRIBE FROM THE NORTH. Nothing has changed NCAA! Are you satisfied to have gained nothing but animosity from the Sioux?
Well-loved. Like or Dislike: 31 16
That is a perfect fit. The Dakota.
No way could it be contested. It’s the name of the state.

You’re right. I like that. “THE DAKOTA”. Maybe even “The Fighting Dakota”. You watch though, the powers that be will insult the Dakota once again and try & use socks as a nickname, i.e. green socks or some such.

The Fighting Dakotans.
Dakota, Lakota, Nakota= Sioux

“It was the last time the video would be played, Engelstad Arena General Manager Jody Hodgson said. Other references to the Sioux and Fighting Sioux also will be edited out of audio and video presentations produced by UND for before and during games.”
Yes, the minister of propaganda can’t allow information to be distributed without censorship.
“To ensure that everybody thought in the correct manner, Goebbels set up the Reich Chamber of Commerce in 1933. This organisation dealt with literature, art, music, radio, film, newspapers etc. To produce anything that was in these groups, you had to be a member of the Reich Chamber. The NCAA Party decided if you had the right credentials to be a member. Any person who was not admitted was not allowed to have any work published or performed. Disobedience brought with it severe punishments. As a result of this policy, NCAA Germany introduced a system of censorship. You could only read, see and hear what the N@$!s wanted you to read, see and hear. In this way, if you believed what you were told, the NCAA leaders logically assumed that opposition to their rule would be very small and practiced only by those on the very extreme who would be easy to catch.”

Let’s re-name the team to the AlwaysCorrects! That way we can blame every team’s failures on our favorite failure!

Why was so much effort put into propaganda?
At no time up to 2011, did the NCAA have a majority of supprt. They may have been the largest athletic orgnaization, but they did not have a majority of support among the people. Therefore, those who had supported the NCAA needed to be informed on how correct their choice was with an emphasis on the strength of the party and the leadership. Those who opposed the NCAA Party had to be convinced that it was pointless continuing with their opposition. The fact that Kelley had so much power is indicative of how important Emmert thought it was to ensure that the people were won over or intimidated into accepting NCAA rule.

That isn’t the way they treated Florida’s Seminoles. There is something else at work here. Call it football $$$. There isn’t any money in hockey in comparison.

I spent New Years Eve in Las Vegas: not a task for the feint of heart. There are some seriously crazy people in this world.
This morning I awoke to a brand new year, and new sense of hope. UND can begin to finally put this sortid, pathetic tale behind us. What could have been done with dignity and respect, has now been done quietly and by the back door because a vocal few have taken it upon themselves to try impose their will upon the many.
I am not talking about the NCAA. I am talking about the supporters who against the will and stated opinion of every major Native American group in the country, insist they speak for Indian America when they say their caricature is a sign of respect. The fact that 99% of their supporters are white is simply a reflection of how marginalized and degraded the Native population is. They obviously need a white man to think for them. It is not possible that they could not understand the depth of feeling the white fans of the nickname have always had for them as a race.
Yes, I awoke to a new hope, a belief that when the dust settles the name will be no more and we can get back to the pressing issues at hand.

North Dakota. University of North Dakota. I like it. I’m proud of my university and the state. I’m proud of my hockey team for an impressive weekend and of the senior players who showed leadership and the new players who stepped up to the plate. It’s a new year and I’m filled with optimism for the future. I think we should honor the past but it’s time to move into the era where we honor North Dakota and all that it stands for and not simply one Native tribe of our State. Go North Dakota! All the rodent and small animal names are taken so Go North Dakota! It’s time to rally around our University and our proud State.

Yes…dignity and respect…if you want to celebrate ignorance and racism….that is what the NCAA, has determined and you and Kelley agree with that assessment.
How do you give dignity and respect to that, and more importantly, why would you?

As I was watching the New Year fireworks in Vegas, I could not help but think how different the final Sioux game could have been and should have been. It should have had fireworks and a show between the first and second periods with Lady Gaga having a wardrobe malfunction. It should have been a celebration; one that would be talked about for years. It should have been a fitting end to a long standing tradition.
Instead … it went quietly out the back door, its head hung in shame. It is sad that the only people who noticed were a few old men on an internet chat board. Very sad.
It could have been different. It could have been a celebration of the old and an ushering in of the new. Instead it was just sad.

The name and logo are “Hostile and Abusive.” The NCAA says so, and Kelly and the NDBHE and you agree.
If you want the Sioux fans to celebrate a tradition of their ignorant racism, yes…a celebration is in order.
You are correct, Kelley should have a celebration…he can celebrate how the enlightened NCAA and he have lead the ignorant North Dakotans out of the darkness of their sins.
If you believe that is the case…yes… you should celebrate.
And at the same time, hope that they are ignorant enough to keep supporting the University and its athletics.

Hey…I was gonna buy a Jonathan Toews bobble head.
Is there any available that have been approved by Kelley’s propaganda corp? The only one that is available right now has that offensive and racist logo on it.

I just pray that the “Last Hurrah” will indeed be the last hurrah for this nonsense!
