There you go again taking the words right out of my mouth!
“Superior is just one site among many being considered for the manufacturing facility.”
If this ever comes to fruition, “will it be sold to the Chinese?” he wonders out loud…
Remember when Saturn was going to build a auto manufacturing plant in Duluth? Remember the Krock facility plan? (It was such a ‘krock’!!)
nay-sayers complain that the twin ports never embrace any new ideas, not true, we bite on everything that comes down the pike! Just wait until the unions get involved, that’ll kill it!

And don’t forget the Wheat Motor Home plant that was to be built here, or union controlled Diamond Tool that was sold to Triangle Corp (with the help of City money and tax breaks) that moved to some hilbilly state before the ink was dry on the sale papers, or how many Jeno companies that started here (with city and state incentives) and were moved “to be closer to the market” as Jeno said. Yup, Duluth really knows how to develop it business base, doesn’t it? Yokels!!!

Yes, Donald Wheat bought the rights and plans for building the front-wheel-drive GMC Motor home and after a long/exciting discussion with the City of Duluth Planniing Commission, it turned out he didn’t have the finacial ‘backing’ or his own money to follow through! Yes, former mayor John Fedo gave away our wonderful Diamond Calk & Horseshoe Tool company to Triangle when he fanagled to get them the money to buy it from the former owners, this only cost Duluth 300 jobs.
Yes, inspite of all the good Jeno did for Duluthians, we often lost out on those jobs when he pulled the plug to move to greener pastures. At least we ‘made hay while the sunshined’! Who can we blame for the loss of K-Mart? oh, those are just minimum wage retail jobs! It only hurts for a little while!

I have faith that someone here will figure out how it was the fault of the unions or the DFL.

Katydid has a good point, but I think it all those folks driving their japanese autos/trucks buying Chinese goods from Wal-Mart, remember, we are in a ‘global’ economy now. It is ok to forget your American neighbor down the block, buy the cheapest you can no matter who is selling it and where it is made, that’s how we live now! Time to turn this thinking around or we will continue to slide backwards toward the pre-WWII stagnant economy level.

Let’s get this guy in here, let him spend his money, make him feel comfortable and worry feel and then after Walker gets unjustly voted out….let’s tax the heck out of this rich guy because he is part of the 1% and part of the country’s problems. {Is that how the liberal script reads?}

Someone emailed me to correct my statement: It’s welcome this multi-millionaire with tax breaks and incentives, hire union labor to build facility, various political leaders take credit and welcome company at opening ceremonies, union leaders ruffle feathers over hired non-union work force, company gives finger and shows profit and is happy, 300-600 permanent workforce happy with job, and yet somehow Democrat leaders want to pin back the ears of millionaires like this guy because he is in the 1% and want to prevent travesties like this from ever happening again.

There IS a reason he is considering Wisconsin, and not Minnesota for this venture.

Yeah, I’ve got a feeling that he’s waiting to see how the recall comes out, and when Walker walks, he’ll settle on Duluth.
Shortly after that, he’ll move to a place where the political climate isn’t quite so goofy.
Like China.

I didn’t hear anyone mention the Northwest Airlines’ Airbus maintenance base at DLH. City and state of Minn spent a fortune and NE MN legislators lobbied like heck to get the reservations center in Chisholm and the maint. base in Dlth.
After everything got cozy with the workers at Dlth they thought they’d join the strikers at MSP once they got whiff of it and boom,,, Northwest shut it down and outsourced the work. AAR Corp is just the sort of company that does maintenance for airlines. They’re supposed to be examining Dlth’s bid as an expansion site. What’s taking so long?
Could it be that they don’t want to get burned by militant unions? Can an investor really trust Duluthians with their assets? You people,,, and you know who you are, better think about that.
Would you put your own money on Duluth?
You did a fine job screwing yourselves out of jobs and screwing over all the people who got that facility. Now 10+ years later the city is paying taxpayer money just to keep the place idle.

Well, I was going to mention the Northwest Maintenance Base, both my nephew and a good friend worked there and still haven’t recovered from the devestation when they lost their jobs on which they had ‘staked’ their careers and futures. I remember Jim Oberstar (a very wealthy congressman from Minnesota, part of the 1%) took credit for bring the base here, maybe he did do what he claimed, and maybe he helped himself to some finacial gain also. How is it a pennyless, uneducated, ranger get into politics and after a 30 year stint on the public dole, is found to be ‘very wealthy’ ???

Oberstar is/was hardly wealthy, abominable.

At least he didn’t start out that way. Seems the son of a miner worked himself up from not all that much.
Care to provide some links as to when he was on the “public dole”?
I’ve never called you a liar before, have I?
