Weird. The place seems so busy every time I drive by on my way to Target.
Hot debate. What do you think?

I’m afraid the Sears at the Mall will probably go to. Every time I go in there (on my way through to the mall) the place seems so sadly empty.

The last three times I visited Sears for the purpose of buying a large ticket item and got no help whatsoever. If that Sears closed I would not be surprised.

Out of the three Kmarts in the area, I could never figure out how that one stayed open. The parking lot was usually quite bare…and they had to compete with Walmart/Target/Shopko and the Mall. I shop at the one in Superior quite a bit, and head over the bridge often to the West Duluth one to shop for clothes. Wisconsin lost quite a few kmarts in a big closings about 8 years ago, but surprisingly the Twin Ports didn’t lose any…guess it was finally their time.

A shame for the employees, but I’m surprised they stayed open this long. They can’t compete. If they added some lines like sewing, yarns and crafts and expanded foods, maybe they would be in the ballpark. They only had one thing I couldn’t get elsewhere, but can’t even remember what that is.

I’m really surprised any of them lasted this long, but had it been my choice, the trashy one out in West Duluth would have gone bye bye! What a total waste of $’s making the one on the hill a BIG K-Mart, back a few years ago and leaving this trashy one in WD, or as I call it, the PIG-STY! It’s just as bad as the $ store out here in WD, tis why I visit the $ store on the hill, a much cleaner environment! I still can’t believe Sears EVER let themselves become affiliated with that filth!

Because Sears has been grossly mismanaged for at least a decade, and money talks.

They probably picked the one on the hill, as it is located right next to SAVERS, where anyone can go and buy decent clothing, shoes, jackets etc., for much much less than what you would pay at any store, and many of the items at savers still have the original tag on them, so why would ANYONE go buy a pair of mens work pants, such as Dockers, at a clothing chain for lets say $35 or higher, when they can pick them up at Savers, with tag still on them, for $7.99 to $9.99….just sayin…..

I’m suprised the Virginia store wasn’t on the list, being across the street from Target. I see people in the store, but not that many buying.

What’s even more surprising is how the DNT labeled this, “Sad to see them go”.

I remember long ago when Kmart was knocking stores like Woolworths, Ben Franklin, Coast to Coast, and Pamida out of business. Oh well, life rolls on.

Such is competition. Winners move on, losers pack up. Stores like Ben Franklin and Pamida were like the Minnesota Vikings of retail, and now we’re in the playoffs. What I wonder is how much choice will be left 20 or 30 years from now? Will we only be left with Target and Walmart once all the competition like Kmart and Shopko packs up?
