A 39-year-old man who died in a trench cave-in in Dickinson Tuesday was trying to save another worker, a representative from the Bismarck Area Occupational Safety and Health Administration Office said Wednesday.

According to this report, emergency workers used shoring to brace the walls of the trench in order to pull the man out. If the trench had been properly sloped or braced, the man would not have been killed in the first place. What is the difference between putting a worker in an unprotected trench and leaving a loaded gun in a room full of kids? A death in either case should be seen as negligent homicide.
