Dear editor,
One of the wonderful things your paper has done to help build community, is to devote an entire page to a photo of a Rosemount High School student athlete. What a great contribution.
Community, though, is not built, on the type of activities like the one held recently at the Rosemount High School Pep Fest (the kissing prank), which you choose to defend. The line seperating what is marginally O.K. with what is thoroughly distasteful in this event is too thin. The focus of those who speak favorably of the event is often on the intent of the parent. What about the blind folded students? They were led to believe that they would be kissing another student ( not their parent). What do you think was on their minds when an unknown student (parent) laid their lips on the student, rolled on the ground in an embrace with the student, and put the students hand on the unknown student’s (parent’s) rear? Not likely mom or dad!
Your role in excusing this activity is a black mark on your efforts to build community. In your response, you show no sensitivity to victums of incest or the concept of decency. If this is the kind of community you are trying to build, then I should find another.
Charles Rike Jr.
