To anyone reading this outside of North Dakota, we’re not all hicks up here.
Despite the best efforts of some, we’re not, really.

I’m not so sure the Big Sky Conference objection is really grounded in the name. I’d say that is simply being used as an excuse to get UND out of the conference.
The original BSC deal was for UND and the University of South Dakota to come in together and they would serve as travel partners. At the last minute, USD found out it was better and cheaper to accept an invite from the Missouri Valley Football Conference and the Summit league.
The BSC now has one lone outpost in UND and it is 1100 miles away from it’s NEXT closest BSC school in Bozeman, MT. It’s almost 1,800 miles away from BSC member Sacramento State in CA.
Can you imagine being the volleyball coach as Sac State, spending 5 1/2 hours on a plane to Grand Forks, then playing a 90 minute game, only to face another 5 1/2 hour return flight?
There folks, now you have the real reason the BSC is making waves over having UND in the conference.

Why no mention of the Spirit Lake Nation wanting to keep the name? Their voice is being completely silenced. The fact that they are filing lawsuits to keep the name speaks volumes.
I believe a vast majority of the Standing Rock members support the name also. Unfortunately, they haven’t been given a chance to vote because the tribal council knows how the vote will turn out. They would have voted on it a long time ago if they new it would fail.
It’s a sad day when the vocal minority makes the rules.
I encourage everyone to do what’s right and sign the petitions. Fighting Sioux Forever!!

I will never stop fighting to keep the nickname. The liberal PC crowd is ruining this country.
It’s embarrassing that the voices of the 66% of Spirit Lake Sioux members that VOTED to keep the nickname aren’t being listened to. Nobody seems to care that that the people that are supposed to be offended by the name aren’t.

It’s hardly a liberal thing. My political beliefs are as soundly conservative as you can get, and I’m glad the name is gone.
How much ND tax money was wasted in this fight? We all know that the legal fees were NOT all paid for with private donations. I’d really like to see an audit conducted to see what UND wasted on this fight.
