The only thing that matters in situations like these are the details. Unfortunately, those details rarely make it to the public. If Mr. McCallum has the financial means and fortitude to stand up to the good old boy and girl system – to insure that all details are addressed – more power to him. Most people don’t have that kind of money to take on ‘the system.’
Tell me, readers (and column writers if you have the investigative wherewithal), how does this type of situation occur in the first place? It is alleged McCallum used intimidation and violated policies. Tell us the details. And if you don’t, why not?
We have a work culture that allows the politics of authority and hierarchy to operate (full force) when it wants to – and then condemns it when it doesn’t. Higher ed does this in an exemplary manner.
Who was so well-connected to a ‘higher power’ than McCallum that resulted in McCallum’s take down. All the targets of work abuse (via authority and hierarchy) should be so lucky.
It’s a fouled up system that allows some to be served up on a platter. and others, not. Targets and abusers alike.

Hard to even know why he is being fired.
If it’s fudging the enrollment figures it was known UND’s figures were bad for over a decade and no one was fired over that and it wasn’t thought to bother anything.
Intimidation, well NDSU was run as an extremely intimidating place for several years and no one was fired over that.
I have to guess that the chancellor didn’t like him for some reason and decided to get rid of him. Do any significant detail auditing and you will find violations at most of the institutions. For some reason this one was made a federal case and the others are ignored.
Doubt the public ever will know why.
