I will not sign either….. NOT because I oppose the use of the name but because of the harm it will do the University if this is on the ballot and passes. The only hope to reinstate the name is if the Spirit Lake legal proceedings are decided in their favor.
And as part of the ruling the court orders it.

The harm comes from tunnel-vision people such as yourself who care for nothing but themselves and their campaign of arrogance. How’s California today? Still thinking you know better than the folks who actually live here, like the rest of your ilk.

Most would understand that the University of North Dakota wants to belong to the NCAA and the Big Sky Conference. All these sideshows prove is that is not sitting well with the NCAA and the Big Sky.
The UND athletic department and the UND administration appear to want to be with the NCAA and the Big Sky, but these continual negative rumblings by those wanting to retain the “Fighting Sioux” are not making it any easier for UND to be in the positive light in the NCAA and the Big Sky Conference.
I am sure the NCAA and the Big Sky Conference are keeping tabs on the negative ramifications the retain nicknamers are bringing to both the NCAA and the Big Sky. I have also been providing all the Grand Forks Herald news articles on the “Fighting Sioux” controversy to NCAA President, Dr. Mark Emmert and to the Big Sky Conference Commissioner, Mr. Doug Fullerton.
Needless to say all these mascot retention problems are not sitting well with the NCAA and the Big Sky.
The harm that this is causing the University of North Dakota in the eyes of the NCAA and the Big Sky members is not good and it is not helping the matter at all.
Even, the North Dakota legislature was starting to see the light by passing the repeal law after the ND delegation met with the NCAA in August, 2011, with the NCAA not backing down in its assertion that the hostile and abusive “Fighting Sioux” nickname and logo had to be retired as agreed to by all parties to the 2007 Settlement Agreement.

In your correspondence with Herr Emmert and D. Fullocrap….have they been adamant that the name is “hostile and abusive?”
There was some indication that the NCAA was backing down from that characterization.

For all you “fans” out there that believe the NCAA has a “right” to censorship. That the NCAA can dictate to their members how to behave and what to believe.
“There was once a nanny-goat who said,
In my cradle someone sang to me:
“A strong man is coming.
He will set you free!”
The ox looked at her askance.
Then turning to the pig
He said,
“That will be the butcher.”

The federal lawsuit filed by Native American UND students against Governor Jack Dalrymple and others is a good read for all, even those wanting retention of the UND nickname and logo because of the lawsuit’s indentification of why the UND nickname and logo were/are harmful to Native Americans.
That federal lawsuit is readable in PDF format in the above link and is captioned as follows below:
