When the mugshot tells the story, and when it does not

If you or a friend or loved one should ever face a criminal situation that makes it in the paper, you can have some control over the sort of image portrayed Continue Reading

It sounds like the DNT is just sitting back collecting photos and press releases….
“The photo of James was provided to media by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office at the time of his booking. We don’t have a record of receiving a similar shot of Dougherty after his March 2009 accident,”
What prevents the DNT from seeking out a more representative photo of someone, particularly if the photo is in some sense unflattering (and it’s a private citizen, not a public official).
Unfortunately this sounds just a bit lazy. How about less reliance on whatever is issued in press releases??

Do reporters ever put themselves in the position of the person they are publishing the picture of?
It seems in ALOT of these stories—the human element is removed, it doesn’t take that much thinking to figure out how one would feel if the picture published was you/someone you know.

I think it’s more that the paper likes things to be sensational. “If it bleeds it leads”. The picture of a person looking guilty makes the person guilty in the eyes of the public, regardless of the outcome, and that sells papers. The Forum group is just a bunch of lazy reporters with a “law and order” perspective. They long such stop even thinking about words like objectivity.
