WORTHINGTON Things are starting to look up for the event center project, as city council members approved a memorandum of understanding with Lexington Hotel Development Group from Greendale, Wis., during the council meeting Monday to exclusively discuss parameters of an agreement drafted by the city. Love it! I feel the event center will be a tremendous boost to the city of Worthington and it will attract more business. A can-do attitude inspires people.

Typically, restaurant and hotel jobs are part time and/or low wage. This event center will employ a couple of managers at a fair wage, and 40 or more at a starvation level of employment. Worthington will need to build even more low income housing so there are workers at the new event center. Is this good for the community?

Build more low income housing for 40 people??? I’m guessing – and it’s a pretty good guess – that there are far more than 40 out-of-work people already living in the area who would be happy to take these jobs!

Right Beans, this will probably benefit a few while taxing the increasingly poor majority of the citizens! Just not what we need more of! We are already paying taxes for an Event Center that can only at best bring in the bucks for the well off corporations who will in turn suck it out of the community. At the same time the taxpayer picks up the toll for the workers just like BS SWIFT.This might be a good thing for a community that has a tax base then can afford it, Worthington can’t. Just plain Bogus!
