I’m just sayin’ – Separation of church and state

Over the past few decades, there has been much written and debated about the phrase “separation of church and state.” It has come to be the rallying cry of those who desire to delete from the national discourse anything that references Christian theology. Continue Reading

It’s sad how we citizens are so eager to give up those basic rights that our founding fathers and mothers died to provide. We pass laws setting the precedent to rewrite amendments to mean something completely different from what it was originally intended and we think we are guaranteeing our freedom when in fact we are cutting our own throats.
We allow the media to overstep its rights and endanger the lives of our men and women in uniform all in the name of freedom of the press. We allow our media to virtually eliminate accused’ right to a fair trial all in the name of freedom of the press. We forget that with our freedoms comes responsibility and said freedoms are only applicable so long as we don’t use them to infringe on another’s freedoms. But, we continue to allow such blatant disregard for each other’s freedoms.
We allow our government to pass laws such as smoking bans on private enterprise because apparently we consumers don’t have enough sense to take our business to where the environment suits our taste and so we ask and even demand that our government force the issues.
We allow our government to pass laws infringing on our right to keep and bear arms simply because we don’t know what it means to infringe or we just plain don’t care.
We allow, nay, we require that our government tax us by imposing a sales tax and yet most of us would and do evade taxes at every opportunity and cry about how everyone else is not paying their fair share.
We don’t even raise our voice when government denies us due process and supports our right to be protected from unreasonable search.
It’s only a matter of time before our way of life becomes a thing of the past. It would be interesting to see what the likes of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and the rest of those who’s signatures adorn our Declaration of Independence would think about where our country has come in the past 225+ years. My guess is they wouldn’t recognize it at all.
