Castle law protects intruder-shooting homeowners

Wisconsin senators voted 26-to-7 this afternoon to let homeowners avoid criminal or civil punishment for killing burglars and other unwanted intruders. The Assembly approved the so-called “castle doctrine” on Tuesday and the bill’s going back to the lower house for approval of a Democratic amendment which was added today.

Just a hypothetical thought here. Say the homeowner is under mental distress and a family member or friend walks into the home unannounced knowing that one family member or friend suffer from said mental distress and the homeowner deems them a unwanted intruder in their present state of mind and shoots and kills them, does that mean they are protected by this proposed new law? Too much gray area for me to feel comfortable about this proposed law protection for homeowners. Or am I simplifying this too much.
