Figures you would prefer criminals carry guns and law abiding “Gomers” not. You might want to reconsider who has the “shortcomings”.

Since NH seems to be unable to present a logical argument, and simply posts comments calling people names, I wonder just where the “shortcomings” really lie.

A little perspective here – where I work I can no longer have a cigarette within 25 feet of any entrance. However – I CAN have a loaded 38 in my pocket. Makes perfect sense to me…
Hot debate. What do you think?

A little more perspective here – where you work you can longer smoke but you can protect yourself. Sounds like common sense to me!

You need to pass a simple psychological test to obtain a permit. So you will never need to worry about carrying a gun!

A little perspective here Alice. People are more likely to die from your second hand cigarette smoke than from a law abiding citizen following the law carrying concealed.

Well one reason to conceal a handgun, is to hide the fact that you are carrying. For example, if you are in a bank and someone pulls a gun to rob the place, if the robber saw your firearm, that might make you a target. On the other hand, if you are carrying a concealed weapon and you are in the same situation, you now, do not pose a visible threat to them.
Having a concealed gun, as long as your life or anyone around you’s life is not threatened, you would be able to keep the handgun concealed, while the robber has no idea, and hopefully he leaves without incident. If he were to start shooting, then that would be a situation where the person with the conceal and carry permit would have to decide to draw their gun or not.

Then again, if you are carrying openly, I’d sure think twice about trying a bank robbery!

The good news is, whether you feel safer or not…I can still conceal and carry my gun next Tue to make myself and my family feel safer!

Alice.. the cigarette can kill you and the concealed weapon can save your life. See the difference? Just something to think about.

Yeah especially when it’s thugs who don’t care about the law and are carrying a concealed weapon without a permit.

Don’t worry, we all promise not to protect shiftless or Alice with our concealed guns. We wouldn’t want you to benefit in anyway from this new senseless law with which you do not agree.

Thanks Johnny, I really would prefer you keep your pistol holstered. It might go off prematurely.

I’m all about gun rights, I just don’t see the point in passing this law. MN passed this law how many years ago, now every single business has a sign on their front door banning guns. What good is carrying a concealed weapon if you can’t go anywhere with it?
Hot debate. What do you think?

Most signs, that “ban guns” are not legal in the first place, as there are strict rules that apply to them. You can still carry into those places, but if you are asked to leave, and you don’t, you will face a trespassing fine of $25.
Another reason why to conceal your handgun!

Wrong. The signs are perfectly legal. If any workplace, business, church, etc in MN doesn’t want guns on the premises, that’s their right.

There are stipulations to the signs regarding placement, lettering size, sign size etc. On a technicality, they are not defined as legal unless they meet all of the criteria (at least here in MN). However, regardless of the legality of the sign, if the owner/person in charge request that you leave the premises you must do so (sign or no sign). Otherwise you will be charged with a petty misdemeanor (which I think is $25)

Yes, Kodiak, I agree. But since the law has been in place in MN, the signs are not something someone drew up with a crayon, they’re the kind you buy in any hardware store, and are all legit.

No bac, I am not wrong. Yes, places can ban guns, that is their right, and yes signs can be perfectly legal, if they meet the specified requirements. I am saying that I have seen a lot of signs that do not meet the requirements, therefore making them not legally enforceable.

Regardless of the sign, whether it’s technically “legal” or not. If I see a sign on a business the bans guns, whether I’m carrying at that time or not I won’t go in. I figure if they want to ban guns on their premises that’s their right. It’s also my right not to spend money at their establishment. There’s plenty of other businesses that will welcome my money.

Hmmm
I guess I never was so interested in the signs that I first read the regulations and stipulations for them, and then went out of my way to see just how many I could find that didn’t meet requirements.
Since you’ve got enough time on your hands and have shown so much incentive, I’ll concede your point, bloc.

Baloney Kari. I live in Minnesota and see almost no signs banning guns except for government buildings. The people who bother to go through all the hoops to get a permit to carry legally are not the people you need to worry about. Worry about those who have no regard for the law and are carrying anyway.

Ditto what Jim said. I live in MN also, and on average less than 5% of business display these signs. What most of the “anti-carry” crowd fail, or refuse, to realize is that only law abiding citizens obey these laws. The only purpose these signs serve is to let criminals know they will be met with no resistance.

I’ve got no problem with the concealed carry law in MN, although I don’t find it worth my time and effort to acquire the permit. Most likely, because I don’t live in the Cities or Duluth.
However, as soon as the law went into effect, we had a company meeting about it, and were told that we were NOT to bring any kind of gun into the workplace, although it was all right to have them in the trunks of our cars.
This is a “one strike and you’re out” policy.

obviously NH SR dosent get out of his moms basement much. Our little utopia is quite different than just about anywhere. In general, this town is pretty safe. To be honest, I *may* get a permit, but i doubt i would carry much in this area. Its the othere areas I would consider it- those areas that are not-so friendly. At least I woiuld have a CHOICE in doing it.
Maybe you should look at the front page of the Pioneer press. Little story in there about a would-be robber and a law-abiding citizen carrying a gun.

That the one about the dude that shot and kilt the robber that pistolwhipped the elderly woman? If so, the Startrib reported today that there will be no charges against the shooter.
That said, the last I heard, there was exactly ONE case of a person with a concealed carry permit in MN being prosecuted for a shooting. That’s in what? Five years?
