Aquila fears Catholic censorship

While in Rome, bishop of Fargo diocese says U.S. Catholics’ religious freedom under firePartly because they come in the middle of a current political fight on these issues, Bishop Samuel Aquila’s comments seem sure to heighten his public profile. For several years, he has been cited by church watchers as one of the more significant of the 300 U.S. bishops. Continue Reading

It’s ironic that, given the suffocating censorship on free thought that was imposed by the Latin Church for some 1500 years, Aquila complains now.

Makes no sense to me that the Catholic Church leaders are trying to keep couples from using contraceptives when they themselves never even have sex. What do they know about it? They need to look at their own problems with pedophile priests before they try to preach to anyone else about anything.

The Bishop speaks the truth, and throughout history people who spoke the truth were criticized and even killed. We must reflect on Jesus Christ saying the truth and what we did to Him.

When you listen to people like Aquila you have to realize that “the truth” does not actually mean the truth — but rather, it means the dogma.
The actual truth is that Aquila isn’t telling it. For example, religious leaders are free to preach on issues from their pulpits. However, the tax laws mean they can’t endorse candidates if they want to keep their tax exemption. Similarly, if they are disbursing tax money, they cannot discriminate. Aquila doesn’t like those rules so he wails “persecution.”
Most catholics are good moral folks. It’s a pity that the same cannot be said about many of their leaders.

Good point. But for the religious hierarchy dogma is truth. Even if that means a geocentric universe, demon-caused disease, and a tri-partite god.

I am censored for my conservative and pro-catholic posts. There is no question that the bishop is correct. Intolerance toward religion is a growing problem.
Btw, the heliocentric universe was discovered by a Catholic priest named Copernicus. Likewise the Big Bang theory was first postulated by a Catholic priest. Louis Pasteur was a devout Catholic. Ignorance about religion is also a growing problem.
