I suspect that most of these jobs in these counties are minimum wage jobs and very likely dead end jobs as well. It isn’t hard to figure out that you can earn a great deal more money in Fargo or in the western counties in the oil fields.

Again Fred it is not all about the money, but obviously it is for you, some day you will figure that out. There is now way I would move out west and work on the oil fields, I also wouldn’t travel there to work my family is much more important. By the way all those “dead end jobs” need to be fulfilled by someone. If we don’t have people to work at these “DEAD END JOBS” society would flounder. You should be thankful for these folks that work so hard and make so little, I am thankful for them. I was lucky enough to fall into a profession that I love and it pays the bills, to me that is the best combination one could ask for. Will I ever be RICH, no but am I happy, extremely. Fred how about you stop worrying about jamestown.

I’d rather work in Fargo then the oil fields too. Many of the jobs being created in the Fargo area are high tech positions with room for advancement.
I’ve got a response to you over in the topic about planning for growth, but for some reason it’s being held up. This one maybe too for all I know.

It takes quite a balancing act to make our communities work. We need to pay enough so people can afford to live. Also need to keep wages at a rate that businesses can charge low enough prices so consumers will buy. It is amazing the size of the lists of people to move into $850 and $1050 per month rentals. Can’t pay that rent on $9 or $12 per hour wage. The jobs that pay well are even having trouble getting qualified applicants. Creating affordable housing, training programs, and infrastructure to support them are important to drive growth in our communities.
