Rick Lubbers: Duluth would go Wild today, if the team gave us the chance
October 3, 2011 at 7:20 pm in Duluth News Tribune
Hello Minnesota Wild players and coaches – welcome to your practices in Duluth. If we may bring up one small gripe, it’s that we wish you had chosen to spend some time bonding with your fans here.

Relax Lubbers. The Wild are working on getting their internal house in order before the start of the season. Think of this a scouting trip for a possible pre-season game at Amsoil. Are you aware of any other NHL team with the intention of playing a pre-season game in another town’s arena? I suppose when that happens you’ll complain the economic benefit of 2 NHL teams wasn’t great enough and bringing 2 NHL teams on the road to Duluth was not enough effort for the fans.

Actually, looking at this year’s NHL preseason schedule, I counted no fewer than 22 games that were played in other towns’ arenas.

This is a “TEAM BUILDING” trip, not a community relations one like the Wild Caravan.

Why let everyone know they are here if you didn’t want people to go see them. They could have come and gone without ‘most’ people even realizing. It is just crazy to not let people in to see some of the practice and ‘THEM’.
They aren’t Gods, but geeze.
My husband just heard ‘they’ were hear practicing and was ready to take our daughter–a junior, hockey player out of school to see them. She doesn’t get out of school often!
Team building is part of seeing the regular fans! It would have been fun, but no.

Knowing I’m a 5 minute walk from their practice is tough, but I understand their desire for team building…its a young team and there are some new faces and they need the cohesion.
They played a couple pre-season games in Grand Forks when Englestad opened up and held closed practices at the same time, and my guess is that this is a bit of a way to test out the DECC/Amsoil and see if a preseason game would work up here…might be tough as there aren’t that many seats.

You all do know that they are a team that never has had success and will once again miss the playoffs? They are the Vikings on ice. Or is it the Timberwolves…
