USDA cuts grain crop estimates sharply

The U.S. Department of Agriculture today sharply cut its estimates of the small grains crop, more than the market was expecting and well below USDA’s projections made last month. Some of the biggest reductions were in the North Dakota crop estimates, where spring wheat output was pegged 24 percent below the August 1 forecast, to 173 million bushels, a figure which is 38 percent less than last year’s spring wheat production.
