The residents of Glenwood Street have drawn a line in the sand, gravel, rocks and cement.

If you’re going to tear up people’s lawns against their will, you’d better have a damn good reason for it. I don’t blame those people at all for doing everything in their power to stop it.

The street right-of-way extends well past the curb. If the city wanted to, it could very well tear up that precious lawn right up to the edge of the right-of-way line. The good reason for building those sidewalks is the completion of the street plan, which has been approved by the elected officials who represent the people.

Boy, that would be great wouldn’t it? Busting up their lawn & plummeting their property just because we CAN.
“It was approved by elected officials” is a pretty stupid reason, particularly when one vote would’ve changed the outcome. 45% of the council seemed to think that the project could be completed just fine without screwing over the people on Glenwood Street.

Glenwood residents had lots of opportunity to provide input to the design and many of their ideas were adopted such as narrowing the driving lanes and eliminating parking and no bike lane even though it is a marked bike trail – they hardly got “screwed over.”
I suspect that if the city had went with the sidewalk without a boulevard these same people would be complaining when the city crew came by and moved the snow from the sidewalk into their yards.

It’s not like people in Lakeside (or the rest of Duluth) use sidewalks anyways. When I lived in Lakeside just a few years ago we had a sidewalk that was smooth as silk, yet every idiot would be out walking in the street.
I had one idiot woman screaming at me how I almost hit her precious little babies with my car. She was pushing her stroller and dragging a kid on one of those backpack leashes down the middle of Juniata Street!
