Stillwater bridge backers make their case in D.C.

Agreed. However, New Richmond’s leaders have severly mortgaged the city’s future on the expectation of large growth with the coming of the new bridge. With the current economy it will take many years before this materializes even with a new bridge. The supporters that went to Washington are exactly those who put the cart before the horse and now are chasing the horse all over the pasture.

How, you ask!? Are you serious? They put millions of dollars in infrastructure in place assuming that the bridge would bring people and tax income. They passed the largest school referendum in state history based on it being paid for through enrollment growth with the new bridge. New Richmond is in a very serious financial situation because of money spent on ideas that have not materialized. Where have you been? Under a rock or taking art classes at UWRF?

I agree that the bridge needs to be built and at some point it will be. My point is that NR got way ahead of themselves by EXPECTING it to be built. There still is no guarantee that this will be built soon and the taxpayers are paying for things that may have not been needed for years to come(if ever). Some folks were looking to cash in on future growth that hasn’t happened as they expected.
