“Former Marine pleads guilty”?
What the heck does being a former Marine have to do with this. Why not say former fast food worker or former odd job worker? Seems a little disrespectful to the men and women in uniform and used as a sensational headline. Call it what it is, a drunk thug hanging out with other thugs beating and robbing an innocent person.
Hot debate. What do you think?

pat e — newspaper articles DO put “former fast food worker” or whatever when they wite about a person… “former minister, school teacher, hotel keeper, congressman”… always used to describe an individual whether they’ve done good or bad! I am certain no disrespect to the military was intended. Taking your train of thought, every minister, school teacher or congressman would be disparaged just because they shared an occupation. You’ve over-analyzed this one. Don’t try to stir up controversy where none exists or was intended.

It’s a dirty job, but somebody has to do it. I’m just trying to achieve a little balance.
If you’re really honest, you’ll admit that neither the headline nor the article was ever intended to cast aspersions on ALL Marines. That’s just crazy logic. When an “ex-cop, cop, ex-priest, priest, firefighter, ex-firefighter” — all honorable professions — gets into trouble, do you really believe that ALL cops, priests and firefighters believe the public will cast them in the same light!? Good grief.

Maybe we agree on something, pat e.
A crime reporter should report crimes in a truthful light, instead of trying to provoke gossip, racism and bias.
