Money Market Magazine has listed St. Croix County as the 25th best place in the country based on job growth from 2000 to 2010. St. Croix County had a job growth rate of 26.7 percent, putting it in 25th place in the magazine’s list of “Where the Jobs are.” Continue Reading

More context and facts are required to understand St. Croix County’s job growth rate of 26.7% from 2000 to 2010, including that from 2000 to 2010 the St. Croix County population grew 33.6%, or from 63,155 people to 84,345 people, and in 2010 about 73% of the St. Croix County population was 18 years of age or older. (See: “St. Croix County Population Gains from 2000 to 2010″ at http://www.stcroixedc.com/pdf/2010stcroix10yrgrowth.pdf; and “St. Croix County Census 2010 Data at http://www.cubitplanning.com/county/1832-st-croix-county-census-2010-population)
Job growth in St. Croix County from 2000 to 2010 would need to occur at a rate of increase equivalent to the rate of increase in adult population growth during that same time period in order to maintain a balance between the available labor pool and available employment; however, that did not occur in St. Croix County. From 2000 to 2010, the rate of population growth in St. Croix County exceeded the rate of job growth by about 7%.
According to the September 2011 edition of the St. Croix Valley Economic Dashboard (http://www2.uwrf.edu/cerdocs/pub/scdb/scdb.pdf), things are not nearly as rosy in our corner of the world as this Money Market article might lead one to think.
