Church OKs property sale for Piedmont school field
September 14, 2011 at 7:00 pm in Duluth News Tribune
One of the final land acquisitions of the Duluth school district’s long-term facilities plan awaits School Board action now that a church has approved the sale.

These poor kids are going to have to walk past a CHURCH to get to their play field. What if they happen to see a cross? What if the child is a Muslim? This is just unacceptable in a multi-culutral society.

DI, Uh, Hello? “school BORED”? And walking past a church somehow coerce them to recite scripture? ARE YOU SERIOUS? What about passing a church while in a car? I’ll bet that makes ‘em want too rush off to confession, right? But it’s OK to let your little ones stroll past a head shop or porno palace? Please, tell us you’ve taken too many blows to the head. Otherwise we might have to call the boys in their clean white suits ’cause they’re coming to take you away, HA HA!

You are living up to your expectations of ignorance to which you have become known for. I’ve always used school BORED as a tongue in cheek shot at them. For you to catch it now means you have deliberately chosen to be ignorant regarding every one of my posts on the topic, or you just blew through the many number of them unknowing until someone else told you it was spelled wrong.
Also, it should be clearly evident that I was being sarcastic. Sarcasm doesn’t translate very well over the internet but if you know my history on these forums, it would be clear, unless you’re you, in which case you need your PCA to explain it to you more clearly.
Where did I say anything about my little ones or anyone’s little ones walking past any head shops or porno palaces? I don’t have any little ones, except for the times when you are hanging off my butt hair.
Your little ones must be so proud of you, what with teaching them how to kill helpless animals for nothing and not having the capacity to understand even the most obvious things.

uhh, I’m sorry. Were you saying something? I’m fortunate enough to have never been sentenced to reading one of your posts directed at the school bored. My PCA must have been changing my depends.

How dare you people put down my church! So what if there is a cross there, people walk by churches everyday! This is not a funny subject, and the only reason the church is complying is because they cant afford to fight the Eminate Domain that would be thrown at them otherwise! This whole thing is a bunch of potent BS!!!

You don’t need a church to have a spiritual relationship with the god of your choosing. It’s supposed to be a private and personal thing between your deity and you. A church is nothing more than a clubhouse for the club members who need assurance that they are doing the right thing by groveling before their choice of any given god. Organized religion is show business, nothing more eloquent than that. I’m sure that the christian god couldn’t care any less about churches, if his book is to be believed. Churches are a human conceit, nothing more. As a matter of fact, some go to church and grovel and sing hymns and pray for the unworthies and have bake sales, all the while not giving one damn about actual spirituality with their god as long as it looks like they’re leading a spiritual life. There’s nothing good about club mentality and organized religion. No one has the upper hand on god, not even someone who goes to church to prove it.

Christian churches are an incredible blessing to their members and to the community at large. If somehow they all disappearance Duluth would turn into a hell hole overnight.

Sounds like somebody has an axe to grind with the Big Guy. Clearly he hasn’t spent any time in a church, only outside howling at them like a lunatic.
So, DI, why all the animosity? If you’re mad at God, why take it out on folks you don’t even know? Attacking those you don’t know on the basis of their affiliation is the definition of prejudice and that makes you a bigot. Hardly a quality designed to endear you to the all tolerant Left. What have you personally done to make someone else’s life better lately? And yet you attack those who are trying to make this world a better place? You’re not only a bigot, but a hypocrite, possibly a bigger hypocrite that those you accuse of being hypocrites.

Actually, I count myself fortunate for not knowing you, and thus hardly obsessed. For all of your references to the space between your legs, methinks thou has compensation issues. Surely thou protests too much!

Queenofgreen, can you help me understand the discomfort you have? My understanding is that this is a strip of undeveloped land valued at $15,000 that doesn’t have any history as part of the church’s worship services. I understand that it reduces the lot size for the church, but it seems to me that $300,000 can accomplish a lot of good works and that on top of providing a safe route for the children at the school to access the playground. Help me understand why this church is doing something that seems so un-christian from the outside.

Let’s not get crazy here. The school bored is not without blame and is not the benevolent group of cloistered monks that they pretend to be. The school bored stole the land they built on by starting to clear it in preparation for building the school before a freaking sale was finalized so they could threaten eminent domain on the owner after they had already started. If that wasn’t bad enough, there was zero land research done for the whole project because now they are forcing out the church for that lack of research. If there was research done, it was done poorly and incompetently if you are just now talking about stealing the church. It should have been brought up and finalized before the first bulldozer broke ground. Bad planning on your part doesn’t constitute an emergency on anyone else’s part. You’re bullying people around and doing it by exploiting the children. What you are doing is unethical and immoral and every one of you should feel ashamed of yourselves for exploiting children to get what you want. Don’t try to pretend that it’s anything less than that.

Wow – Can we stay on topic people? I agree with a fair amount that DI says, although he tends to use sarcasm a fair amount so it if difficult in a blog to see that. – and Hugh, you simply sound arrogant and a bit like you are obsessed. Let it go and continue the conversation. The article was about the church agreeing to sell a 15, 000 pc of land (reluctantly – not “overwhelmingly” as the District wants people to believe) for the District’s outrageous offer of just under 300,000 – we all should be outraged that while they lay off teachers, don’t have enough basketballs, cram 40 kids in a class, and close or tear up schools and fields that we as citizens will be paying for another 5 years, they can “find” so much extra money to pay for this type of thing – Good luck with that levy when you bully your way into every negotiation. Many homeowners threatened with eminent domain, and now a church. Of course they are going to sell. Do you think the District was ever worried they wouldn’t get the land? They write checks with our money, of course they will get whatever they want because there is no limit to how far they will stoop. The school does need that land – but they should have never been allowed to go ahead with the building until they had the required land purchased. Thats the Department of Education – government hard at work – instead of overseeing a project they step back and allow a private for profit company to run the show with tax dollars and no one overseeing it all. This is what happens. Once again, the Red Plan, and the way it was handled will be felt for years to come. We have beautiful new schools now, but when we look back – at what price? Dead Inside is just one of thousands in this community that are still angry at how this was allowed to happen. There’s an election coming up. Research your candidates and if they are a current Board member, or are supported by the people that got us into this mess then don’t vote for them.

My appologies for the arrogant comment, Hugh J – I was just reading posts on different topics and found your responses very appropriate – clearly it is difficult to gauge one’s tone in a blog. Sometimes it is easy to go back and forth and lose sight of the topic.
