The last thing that anyone in Grand Forks needs is more property taxes. More city taxes paired with the unlimited levy from the school district…at what point is enough enough?

Wasnt there an article recently about the Library chief putting out some wages that were from Minneapolis to try to justify the massive pay increase she wanted? I think that should be scrutinized extremely well. Not bad though, 2 million saved for a fire station or 23 million up front for a Library. I’ll take the Fire station thank you very much. And on a final note, good article if you want to bash a person for their views. Bjerke may be a bit over enthusiastic at times with saving money but its kind of nice having someone actually be the fly in the ointment when it comes to our towns spending. Yet the GFH actually writes this article like its a bad thing. btw, He tried to force the mayor to lay off employees by taking $300,000 from the general fund budget? Why are we using the General fund budget as a payroll fund? Maybe he was just pointing out that we were not utilizing the proper pools to pay people from. Not that i would expect the GFH to actually do some thinking for themselves.
Hot debate. What do you think? 25 12
What part of we don’t want to pay more in taxes do they not understand? The Librarian makes enough money…

It’s funny in a way….Often the very same people who shout that GF needs to grow and grow seem to also shout out any time taxes need to be raised a little (Come on $4.50 on $100k….Very little) to pay for the expenses that go along with growing the city. Hey! I’d be perfectly happy to see the town kind of mellow where it’s at so it doesn’t get too big and bring the troubles that come with that….But unfortuantely that ship has long past…..So as with everything else…If we’re going to grow it’s going to costs. Something like a fire dept to serve that end should be a no brainer….Unless we want to revert to the “We got ours so the hell with them getting theres” bit

I would recommend re-reading the article. It wasn’t just the small sum you noted for the mil increase.

This city is unrelenting with its tax thirst! There is no way the City Council should be, once again, raiding the pockets of property owners. Between the president of the council and the mayor there is no idea about what or how the average citizen in Grand Forks lives. If we all made the same wage as they do, it wouldn’t be an issue, right? How many people in Grand Forks work 2 jobs just to pay for their homes? The Grand Forks Council is bent on insuring that homes go up on the market through their insiduous tax hikes!
