Minnesota is fighting back. In an attempt to halt the accession of the undesirable invasive species in its lakes, the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is rolling out three invasive species decontamination units. Continue Reading

Headline mis-leading – If someone just glanced at the headline they might think we have a cure for zebra mussells. There is nothing in the article that leads to a reduction in zebras in lakes that have them. So why “Bye Bye”?? While this is a first baby step it covers a very small percent of the boats leaving the infected lakes. I applaud the effort but it does not match the headline.

My thoughts exactly. I opened the link to the article specifically expecting to read about some solution to the problem but discovered that once again we are treating the symptoms and not finding a solution. What’s next? Are we going to hire people to provide these washing units on every boat access in the state? I hope they are also washing the feet and feathers of every duck, goose, grebe, pelican, loon, heron, or any other creature that travels from one body of water to the next.
Sounds more like a “feel good” short-term expensive response to a long-term problem.

Complete waste of time and money.
Like trying to empty a lake with a teaspoon.
