How exactly is hiring the former Principal back to his former job adding more administration lora?

It doesn’t. My comment was about some districts needing to hire more administration to work on evaluations. I am opposed to more money going to administration when budgets are tight. Kids, classrooms and teachers should come first.

Like the story was says it is a mandate coming at schools NOT something being created by schools. Contact Sen. Gimse and Rep. Vogel if you disagree with this happening to already cash strapped public schools.

Lora, you do realize this is 100% a result of a Republican-driven mandate for more evaluations, right? To criticize the Willmar school for following the letter of the law of a new state mandate is thin-skinned and thin-brained.
Should they disobey the state mandate and jeopardize their state funding?

I remember my teachers being evaluated when I was in high school, when did that stop? Why did it stop? It wasn’t a big deal, the teacher taught and the “evaluator” (a/k/a the principal) sat in the back of the classroom for the hour with a cup of coffee and clipboard. There shouldn’t need to be one more person hired…if top administrators aren’t qualified to do the evaluating and can’t seem to find the time to do it, why are they top administrators?

Michelle I think the comment was refering to school districts who have trimed all that they can from their Administrative budgets but now they are being asked to expand responsibilites for administrators. Your right part of a principals job is teacher evaluation, but now days it is much more than that too. There are more and more Principals today in smaller rural districts who are covering two buildings instead of one and are are responsible for K-12 instead of Elementary or Secondary only. Those district Prinicpals may not have the time to do what is now being mandated by St. Paul.

I understand what you’re saying, Mike. I really think it’s time to go back to basics but am not going to try to blame one thing or another for where we’re at when it comes to school goings-on…especially when I have a very simplistic understanding of how it all works. Somewhere along the line, it seems that administrators and teachers have been tasked with too much and I think society is finally questioning just how much is really necessary at this point. It’s also very unfortunate that the State and Federal governments issue “mandates” without clear thought to funding and reality of situations.
