Though Thursday’s news of indiscretions by Dickinson State University President Dr. Richard McCallum was shocking to some, sadly it comes as no surprise to others.

There was a big push for constant growth in enrollment, it comes from the Chancellor’s office. Maybe the pressure and climate doesn’t actually start with the President?
I don’t really know the answers but I think that we deserve knowing. Instead of a quick report and a Chancellor that doesn’t like the President using him as the scapegoat, there should be a complete investigation by an independant.
I’m not so sure it is an isolated case. I say that because my kid keeps getting stuff from UND asking him things like what day he is moving in. This despite the fact he notified them months ago he wasn’t coming and hasn’t made any sort of housing arrangement.
One thing that is pretty clear, the software that seems to actually run higher education in ND that cost many millions of dollars has very poor if any error checking. Tell me how it wouldn’t flag people who are supposedly enrolled and getting grades but who haven’t paid a dime or had their tuition paid or waived or anything. Pretty basic error. I would think the legislature would like to see people billed for services received, don’t you agree?
I also kind of wonder how in both the NDSU and DSC cases we hear people making very good wages speak of how poor them are so intimidated and afraid to say anything. I don’t know what they tell students about cheating or anything, I guess you can just say you were intimidated and that makes it okay.
Seems like no backbone or standards anymore in most people. The only one standing up saying he isn’t taking it is the President. If people have already shown they won’t actually do their job when it’s a bit tough, I really can’t see keeping them there.
